Since opening our doors in 1948, our medical center has grown from a 60-bed community hospital into a nationally recognized, 650-bed academic medical center serving more than 500,000 patients each year. Our history is one of continuous innovation, from performing the region's first open-heart surgery in 1962 to pioneering robotic-assisted procedures that are now standard of care. Our campus includes a Level I Trauma Center, a dedicated children's hospital, a comprehensive cancer center, and a women's health pavilion. We also operate 25 outpatient clinics throughout the metropolitan area, ensuring that expert care is accessible within every community we serve. As an academic medical center affiliated with the university's School of Medicine, we train the next generation of physicians, nurses, and allied health professionals. More than 800 residents and fellows complete their graduate medical education here each year, and our research programs generate over $120 million annually in funded studies that translate bench discoveries into bedside treatments. Our commitment extends beyond the walls of our hospital. Community health initiatives, free screening programs, and partnerships with local organizations address social determinants of health and reduce disparities in underserved populations. We believe that true healthcare means caring for the whole community.
Our mission is to improve the health of every patient and community we serve through exceptional clinical care, innovative research, and the education of tomorrow's healthcare leaders, all delivered with compassion, integrity, and respect for human dignity.
We envision a future where every person has access to world-class healthcare, where breakthroughs in medical science are rapidly translated into treatments that save and improve lives, and where health equity is not an aspiration but a reality.
The principles that guide everything we do and define who we are as an organization.
Every decision we make starts with the patient. We listen, we communicate clearly, and we tailor treatment plans to individual needs and preferences.
We pursue the highest standards of evidence-based medicine and measure ourselves against national quality benchmarks. Our outcomes data is publicly available because we believe in transparency.
From gene therapy to artificial intelligence in diagnostics, we invest in research that pushes the boundaries of what medicine can achieve for our patients.
We treat every patient with empathy and respect, recognizing that healing involves the mind and spirit as well as the body. Our care teams are trained in trauma-informed practices.
Patient safety is non-negotiable. Our rigorous protocols, continuous quality improvement programs, and culture of transparency ensure we learn from every event to prevent harm.
